After spending several years in corporate America, a lasting impression and a deep conviction overcame me concerning the understanding and value of generational diversity in the workplace. The presence of diverse generations in the workplace speaks volumes regarding the values and creativity within an organization.

The National Diversity Council envisioned an initiative that would provide insight and training to prepare college students for placement in corporate jobs and thus the DiversityFIRST™ Internships program was born. The mission of this program is to help millennial college students achieve their full potential by giving them the tools they need to be successful in the corporate world. Our interns are carefully selected from major universities across the nation and undertake a rigorous one-week leadership program to further prepare them for their internships.

Generational diversity in the workplace serves as a platform for new ideas and cross-cultural interactions to be cultivated and, as such, it is very desirable. It also sparks innovation and offers a bridge to reach today’s diverse markets.
